Scientists Now Say That Farts Can Fight Cancer And Other Terminal Diseases
It seems farting isn't that unpleasant anyway as researchers at Exeter university have something positive to say about the odorous sensation. Hydrogen Sulfide (which is released when farting) is toxic in large quantities, but in small amounts they can be used to fight killer diseases such as cancer, stroke, heart attack and dementia, a new finding shows. Hydrogen Sulfide aids the preservation of Mitochondria (used to control inflammation and drive energy production in blood vessels) in cells affected by diseases. Without this vital substance, the cells can die.
This has led researchers to produce a chemical, AP39 which helps to produce just the right amount of Hydrogen Sulfide that the body needs. This is aimed at treating conditions like arthritis, heart failure, stroke, diabetes, dementia and ageing. This drug has however not been tested on humans yet, but the science that backs up its production could well make it a medicinal hero, as it has the potential to keep the cells alive and active against threatening illnesses.
