Many Chinese men travel to the city during the week for work while their families stay home in rural areas. Not wanting to cheat their wives or girlfriends, many have purchased synthetic sex dolls.
Made by MicDolls, a Beijing-based company specializing in sex dolls, the model Liu purchased is called "156", which responds to how tall she is in centimeters.
They come bald so each owner can choose the wig they prefer. Liu got a regular size one, but many come in a child-size so they don't take up too much space in the bedroom.
“Honestly, it is very easy to just pay a little money to find a woman in China,” Lu said with a nervous laugh, “but I simply cannot bring myself to cheat on my wife, so I have never considered it.”
156 is a high end model, her cost is $2,500. She is made out of thermoplastic elastomer, which is a rubbery material that feels even softer than silicone.
Liu’s doll has adjustable hands, a removable head, and genitals. He never even considered buying a blow up doll, “There was no way I would have sex with that kind of cheap inflatable plastic.”
According to the owner of Micdolls, Yi Jiange, his customers are doing the morally right thing. “If a married man refuses to see prostitutes and uses a doll instead, isn’t that admirable?” Jiange asks.
“The only way a doll is better than a woman is that it won’t resist,” Liu says of his elastomeric lover, “so I just used it a few times.” That makes her even more appealing, apparently.
Chinese sex toy market earns an estimated 100 billion yuan a year. Yi Jiange's company is going into major production and is relying on the severe gender discrepancy in the country to make Micdolls thrive.
n the end, autoworker Liu ultimately prefers the warm touch of a living woman. “A doll’s perfection is derived from mathematical calculations,” he says, “but it will never be more beautiful than a woman because she has no soul.”
